CODE OF
CONDUCT:
1. Purpose
The purpose of this Code of Conduct is to:
• Establish a common set of behavioral standards for all members, players, coaches, officials, and supporters.
• Promote respect, fairness, and sportsmanship in all club activities.
• Provide guidance for appropriate behavior and outline the consequences of violations.
2. Scope
This Code applies to:
• All players, coaches, staff, volunteers, and members of Hellbender RFC.
• All club-related activities, including practices, matches, social events, and online interactions.
• Any representation of Hellbender RFC in the community, media, or other public forums.
3. Core Principles
a. Respect and Integrity
• Respect for Individuals: Treat all club members, opponents, officials, and spectators with dignity. Avoid any form of discrimination, harassment, or abuse based on race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, age, or ability.
• Integrity: Act honestly and ethically at all times. Uphold the values of rugby and be a role model for fair play both on and off the field.
b. Sportsmanship
• Fair Play: Compete with honor, respect the rules, and abide by the decisions of referees and officials.
• Humility in Victory and Defeat: Recognize that both success and setbacks are part of the sport. Encourage teammates, accept decisions gracefully, and strive for continuous improvement.
c. Safety and Well-Being
• Player Safety: Follow all guidelines and safety protocols during practices, matches, and training sessions. Report any hazards or unsafe practices immediately.
• Well-Being: Prioritize the physical and mental health of yourself and your teammates. Seek help or report any concerns related to health or abuse.
d. Responsibility and Accountability
• Personal Responsibility: Each member is responsible for their actions and must adhere to club rules, decisions made by the Executive Board, and this Code of Conduct.
• Team Responsibility: Encourage accountability among teammates, support each other in upholding these standards, and help foster a positive club culture.
e. Commitment and Dedication
• Commitment to Improvement: Dedicate yourself to regular training, development, and the overall success of the club.
• Community Engagement: Represent Hellbender RFC positively in the community and participate in outreach programs that promote rugby and healthy living.
4. Behavioral Expectations
a. On-Field Behavior
• Maintain a respectful attitude toward opponents, officials, and teammates at all times.
• Avoid aggressive language, unsportsmanlike conduct, or any actions that could lead to injuries.
• Adhere to all rules and guidelines as set by the club, league, and governing bodies.
b. Off-Field Behavior
• Demonstrate professionalism and respect in all club-related activities, including social media interactions.
• Refrain from using language or behavior that is offensive, derogatory, or inflammatory.
• Respect confidentiality and privacy of all members and sensitive club information. c. Conflict Resolution
• Address disputes or conflicts directly with the involved parties when appropriate.
• Seek assistance from club leadership (e.g., the President, Vice President, or designated ombudsperson) when conflicts cannot be resolved amicably.
• Engage in constructive dialogue and mediation to resolve conflicts fairly.
5. Reporting and Enforcement
a. Reporting Misconduct
• All members are encouraged to report any breaches of this Code of Conduct to a designated club officer or via an established reporting process.
• Reports can be made anonymously if preferred.
• All reports will be handled confidentially and investigated promptly. b. Disciplinary Action
• Violations of the Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action ranging from a verbal warning to suspension or expulsion from the club, depending on the severity of the offense.
• The Executive Board will review each case and take appropriate action, ensuring that all decisions are fair and consistent.
• Members have the right to appeal disciplinary decisions in accordance with club procedures.
6. Commitment to Improvement
• Hellbender RFC is committed to reviewing and updating this Code of Conduct regularly.
• Members are encouraged to provide feedback on how the Code is implemented and to suggest improvements.
• Training and educational sessions on sportsmanship, ethics, and safety will be offered periodically to reinforce these standards.
By being a member of Hellbender RFC, you agree to uphold this Code of Conduct and contribute to a positive, respectful, and safe environment for all.
